Obituary

LANCASTER, SC ~ Laura Jane Starr (Mama Jane), age 59, took her last breath on earth surrounded by her family on May 4th, 2025 at 8:36pm. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 6th, 1966, she was the youngest daughter of the late William Jackson Horton, Sr. and Annie Laura Belk Horton. Known throughout the Buford and Tradesville communities as Mama Jane, she never met a stranger. She was also the adoptive mother and grandmother to what seemed like half the county. Her love for animals was well known and she always had a hard time turning away strays, much to the dismay of her husband. She really enjoyed cooking, reading, all types of music, history, ghost hunting and especially shenanigans. Her true passion however was spending time and laughing with her friends and family. The love and pride that she held in her heart for her children and grandchildren, both biological and adopted, was fierce and deep. When she told someone, she loved them, she meant it with every fiber of her being. She was especially proud of all her grandchildren, reveled in being a "Mawmaw", and was excited to meet her newest grandson, Waylon Bruce Starr due in September. Her faith helped to keep her strong during the most tumultuous and heartbreaking moments in life and she was a rock for her family and friends during these times in their lives.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of nearly 25 years, Johnny Paul Starr; her daughters, Amy Willhite (Jesse), and Emma Willhite; her sons, Gregory Horton (Ann), Johnny Paul Starr II (Sarah), and Ricky Starr (Madison); her grandchildren, Gabby Shanks, Andrew Horton, Caison Usher, and Addison Usher; her sisters, Dawn Reece, and Karen Horton; her sister-in-law, Gail Horton, and brother, Bryant Horton; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, grandchildren, siblings, and best friends, all of whom she loved immensely.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Andrew Willhite, and April Willhite; her sister, Rhonda Moore; her brother, "Jackie" Horton; and her brother-in-law, Robert "Bob" Reece.
