LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. James William "Jimmy" McAteer, age 81, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's.  He was born on April 21, 1937, in Lancaster, SC, a son of the late James Barber McAteer and Sara Duncan McAteer.  He was the owner of Spring Printing Company in Monroe, NC from 1976 until 2007.

Mr. McAteer was a long-standing member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, R.A. Leader, softball team member and choir member.  He was proud to serve for many years in the Army National Guard.

Mr. McAteer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cecilia Long McAteer; one son, James Scott McAteer of Greenville, SC; two daughters, Cindy Whitson and her husband, Gregg of Statesville, NC; Rhonda McCain and her husband, John of Waxhaw, NC; four grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth McCain of Waxhaw, NC and Katelin McCain Elgan and her husband Ben of Gainesville, FL; Bentley Whitson and Erikson Whitson of Statesville, NC; three sisters, Ernestine King and her husband Bruce of Traveler's Rest, SC; Sara Anne Threatt and her husband Jimmy of Lancaster, SC; Martha Jean Cowles and her husband Phil of Charlotte, NC; and one brother, Ned McAteer and his wife Anna of Fort Mill, SC.

The Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, Dec. 30 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.  Visitation/receiving of friends will be immediately following the service in the Family Life Center.
