LANCASTER, SC::: Mr. James "Jim" William Mahaffey, age 79, died Monday, January 18, 2016. He was born May 8, 1936 in Lancaster, a son of the late William Leroy Mahaffey and Marie Craig Mahaffey. Jim was married to Sarah Ruth Craig Mahaffey for 59 years and was the owner of Mahaffey Used Parts and the former owner of the Lancaster Motor Speedway. He served our country in the United States Army, was a Shriner, and a Mason with the Wannamaker Lodge No. 329. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Jim was a loving father to his five children, 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was a wonderful, caring man that lived his life for his family and friends. He served the Buford community and Lancaster County for many years. He will be truly missed by those who loved and knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Ruth Craig Mahaffey, his five children, Mike Mahaffey and his wife, Cathy, John Mahaffey and his wife, Barbara, Lynn Whitaker and her husband, Johnny, Mark Mahaffey and his wife, Ava, and Brian Mahaffey and his wife, Sheila, all of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren, Felicia Mahaffey Dube and her children, Zachary Justice and Brennan Dube; Carrie Bowers and her children, Caroline, Grace and Bennie Bowers; Mathew Mahaffey and his children, Caylin, Gage, and Lynsie Mahaffey; Luke Mahaffey and his children, James and Carson Mahaffey; Steve Whitaker and his children, Hannah Whitaker and Erica Schrader; Robert Whitaker and his children, Raegan and Bailey Whitaker; Hayley Mahaffey; Kaylee Wilson and her daughter, Adelaide Marie Wilson; Sabrina Medlin and her daughter, Braelyn Medlin, Jessie Mahaffey and Becca Mahaffey.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Marie Mahaffey; two brothers, Johnny Mahaffey and Glen Mahaffey, a sister, Betty Mahaffey; and a great grandson, Carter Dube.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Mahaffey will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Bethlehem Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Myers and Rev. Mack Mullis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday evening, January 19, 2016 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, and suggest memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Bus Fund, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
