LANCASTER, SC – Mr. James Carson Burgess Sr., age 79, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022. He was born August 12, 1943, in Monroe, NC, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson Burgess and Bleeker Haigler Burgess and was the husband of the late Coleen McLough Burgess. Mr. Burgess proudly served in The United States Army. He was a very hard worker who loved working and teaching his hobbies to his children. He was an electrician for many years, he loved mechanical work, woodwork, and plumbing work. If you needed anything done, he was the one to call on. Mr. Burgess loved to fish and spend time with his family.

Mr. Burgess is survived by his children, Kevin Burgess (Tammy) of Lancaster, James Burgess Jr. of Salisbury, NC, Debbie Burgess (Harley) of Kings Mountain, NC, and Bernie Durkee (Bridget) of Fairbanks, AK; and seven grandchildren, Justin Durkee, Ryan Burgess, Abbigail Burgess, Noah Burgess, Patrick Burgess, Paul Burgess Jr., and Matthew Burgess.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Bleeker Burgess; and all five of his siblings, John Burgess, Fred Burgess, Frankie Burgess, Betty B. Cauthen, and Beatrice Laney.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Burgess will be held at a later date.
