Obituary

James Paul Sahner, 71, of Indian Land, SC, died at home on March 28, 2023, due to complications with Parkinson's Disease.

Jim was born April 12, 1951, in Brooklyn, NY, and grew up in Massapequa, NY. After high school he joined the Navy and while serving on the USS LaSalle in the Persian Gulf he met his future wife, Janis (Hill) Sahner.  Jim earned a degree in Journalism from the University of Arkansas.  The family settled in Baldwin, NY where they welcomed their son Paul into their world. Later they moved to Somers, NY where they stayed until retirement brought Jim and Janis to South Carolina.

Jim began his career in 1978 with United Media Enterprises, starting as an assistant and ending as Director of Production.   In 1994, Jim joined Dreyfus Corporation, where he headed up the print production department. He retired in 2009 as Vice President of Production.

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and endless creativity that was uniquely his own. He had a live and let live gentle kindness about him. He was happiest at home watching the Yankees, playing softball with his pals in Somers, sharing memories from his Long Island days with his childhood friends, playing guitar, and spending time with his son.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Kathleen Sahner. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janis, son Paul (Alison) Sahner, granddaughter Elizabeth Sahner, sister Diann (Doug) Beckner, brother William (Jane) Sahner, mother-in-law Carolyn Hill, brother-in-law Tom Hill, and a niece and three nephews.

He will be buried in the Florida National Cemetery and a celebration of his life is being planned in New York for a future date.
