LANCASTER, SC::::::::: Mr. James Augustus Jim Mize, age 80, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center - Pineville. He was born March 31, 1936 in Iredell County, NC, a son of the late James Albert Mize and Mary Lucy Wood Mize and was the husband of Betsy Ball Mize. Mr. Mize retired as CEO of Bowater Federal Credit Union now known as Arrowpointe Federal Credit Union. He was a car enthusiast, enjoyed NASCAR racing and has a large model car collection. After retiring from Bowater, he opened a used car lot. Mr. Mize served our country in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster where he previously taught Sunday School, was an RA Leader and a former member of the choir.

Mr. Mize is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betsy Ball Mize, which he met while attending Mitchell Junior College in Statesville; a son, James Alan Mize and his wife Mary Beth of Heath Springs; two daughters, Patti Mize Steen and her husband Glenn of Lancaster and Christi Mize McManus and her husband Ritch of Irmo; two brothers, Gary Mize and his wife Linda of Knightdale, NC and Dwight Mize and his wife Annette of Waxhaw, NC; eight grandchildren, Jessica Steen Martin, Rebecca Steen Benson, Brittany Steen Jennings, Landry Alan Mize, Hudson Phillips Mize, Amelia Elizabeth Mize, Danielle Christine McManus, and Bethany Elaine McManus; and three great grandchildren, Jeslyn Elle Martin, Jaycie Christine Martin and Carson Richard Benson.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Mize will be 3:00 pm Saturday, September 3, 2016 at First Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Hatcher, Dr. Doug Mize and Rev. Clyde Ball. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The Family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 pm Friday evening, September 2, 2016 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Lancaster, Bereavement Fund, PO Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29721.
