INDIAN LAND, SC ~ Mr. James Phillip Burt, Jr., age 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at his home. He was born January 28, 1944, in Charlotte, NC, a son of the late James Phillip Burt, Sr. and the late Edith Griffith Burt and was the husband of the late Josephine "Joann" Busbee Burt. Mr. Burt was a retired engineer from Bell South. He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, shooting guns, and woodworking. Mr. Burt was a member of Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club and was involved in Boy Scouts for many years. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. Mr. Burt was a member of Belair United Methodist Church.

Mr. Burt is survived by his son, Kirk Burt, and his fiancée, Toni; son-in-law, Roger Wentz; four grandchildren, Maggie Watson, Logan Hedrick, Austin Hicks, and Hayden Briggs; four great-grandchildren, Jenson, Ryland, Mylah, and Wrenley; two siblings, Furman Burt, and Laura Berryhill; and two stepsons, Brad Rikard, and Kenny Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Burt; and his daughter, Pamela "Pam" Wentz.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Burt will be 3:00 pm Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Belair United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Mallory Nickerson and Rev. Gayle Summey-Beaudrot. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
