Obituary
LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::Mr. James Coleman "Sarge" Hinson, Jr. slipped into the arms of Jesus on December 31, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and in the care of Hospice. James, or Sarge, as he was affectionately called, was born in Lancaster County on October 26, 1933 to the late James Coleman Hinson, Sr. and Ennie Ellis Hinson.
James worked for Springs Industries/Grace Bleachery for 39 years, where he served as the manager of the shipping department. The love of his life was his beloved United States Air Force, where he served for 41 years, retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was a devoted member of Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as treasurer for the past 48 years, Elder, Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.
Mr. Hinson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Johnnie Lynn Mullis Hinson; one son, James R. Hinson and his wife Judy of Heath Springs; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Rommy Mullis and his wife Linda of Lancaster and Tommy Mullis, Sr. of Lake Toxaway, NC; a sister-in-law, Betty Wilson of Atlanta, GA, two grandchildren and several step grandchildren.
Mr. Hinson was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Hinson, a sister, Elizabeth Hagins and her husband Sam, and a sister-in-law, Jerri Murakami and her husband George.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Hinson will be 3:00 pm Friday, January 2, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Paul Smith, Jr. of Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church and Rommy Mullis of Northside Baptist Church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday evening, January 1, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family requests memorials be made to Wade Memorial Presbyterian Church, in care of Sherrill Mullis, 703 Gillsbrook Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
