Starts at 3:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James "Alan" Mize who passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the age of 62. Alan was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Alan shared 25 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Mary Beth. Together, they built a life and family filled with love and memories, raising their three children, Landry, Hudson, and Amelia, who were the greatest blessings of his life. Being a husband and father was one of the most important parts of who Alan was, and his love for his family knew no bounds.
Alan had a love for music and enjoyed spending time playing his guitars. He was a devoted Clemson fan, cheering on his Tigers through both the good seasons and the bad, and one of his greatest joys was watching Landry and Hudson play sports throughout the years. He also enjoyed watching sci-fi movies with Amelia. In his younger years, Alan also enjoyed writing about sports for the local newspaper, combining his love of sports with his love of writing. Alan also served as a youth minister when he was younger, a time in his life he always spoke of with fondness and pride. He also enjoyed watching baseball and westerns alongside his mother-in-law, making memories in the simple moments of life. Above all else, Alan loved his family. He cherished the time he spent with his mother, sisters, and extended family, and those relationships held a very special place in his heart. But most of all, Alan loved his wife and children unconditionally. They were his world, and his love for them was endless. Known for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor, and kind heart, Alan had a special way of making others laugh and feel welcome. He will be remembered for his laughter, his love of family, his many passions, and the joy he brought to the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Alan is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Mize; his mother, Betsy Ball Mize; his children, Landry Mize (Megan Rosemond), Hudson Mize and Amelia Mize; two sisters, Patti Steen (Glenn) and Christi McManus (Ritch); and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, James Augustus Mize.
The Celebration of Life Service for Alan will be 3:00 pm Sunday, November 8, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Lancaster officiated by Rev. Randall Hatcher, Dr. Doug Mize and Mr. Glenn Steen. Burial will follow the service in the First Baptist Church Memory Garden. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
