LANCASTER, SC –Mr. Jack P. Smith, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born September 25, 1934, to the late Jacob P. Smith and Ethel Eisenhower Smith and was the husband of Marilyn Sylvia Smith. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. After his service, he attended James Sprunt Community College where he obtained an Associate Degree. He worked after graduation for Sperry Univac Corporation servicing computer systems throughout eastern North Carolina. Mr. Smith went on to become an Instructor at James Sprunt Community College teaching Electronics. He was also an Instructor and Department Head of the Electronics Program at Robeson Community College. Mr. Smith was a God loving man that enjoyed spending time with his family and enjoyed making them laugh. He also enjoyed listening to gospel music, traveling, NASCAR and football. Mr. Smith was a member of Covenant Baptist Church where was a member of the 4G Sunday School Class. He loved singing in the choir prior to his fight with throat cancer. Mr. Smith was a 27-year cancer survivor.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marilyn Smith; three sons, Jack Smith (Babby) of Charlotte, NC, Dennis Smith (Caroline) of Madison, TN, and Dale Smith (Wendy) of Irmo, SC; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Dennis Smith (Chae) of Florida; a very close nephew, Dan Smith (Laurie); and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Fairy Thoman, Doris Hoffman, and Jean Spinelli; and three brothers, Floyd Smith, Leon Smith, and Glenn Smith.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Smith will be 2:00 pm Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Covenant Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Bobby Strother.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the church fellowship hall.
