LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Jack Lendon Phillips, age 87, died Wednesday, February 06, 2013 at Lancaster Convalescent Center. He was born March 25, 1925 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Dock Franklin Phillips and Mabel Phillips Phillips and was the husband of Doris Ghent Phillips. Mr. Phillips served in the US Navy and worked overseas for many years with the Arabian American Oil Company. After returning to the US, he worked for WTVI in Charlotte as an electrical engineer until retiring. After retirement, he volunteered for Springs Memorial Hospital installing lifeline equipment all over the county and also became an avid runner at the age of 50 and spent many hours at the local track.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Doris Ghent Phillips, 2 daughters, Carol P. Lyerly and her husband Kenneth of Cumming, GA, and Laura P. Russell and her husband Scott of Fort Lawn, a sister, Betty P. Clough and her husband Pete of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren, Abe, Garth, Philip and Colin Lyerly and Heather P. Huitron and her husband Matt, 7 great grandchildren, Ken Lyerly, IV, Dylan, Reid, Anna, Avery and Kate Lyerly, and Colby Huitron and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Baxter, Melvin, Elmer, James, Fred, and Bob Phillips, and a sister, Gladys P. Young.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Phillips will be 2:00 pm, Friday, February 8, 2013 at The Chapel of Hartley-Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family of Mr. Phillips will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and the family suggests memorials to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1152 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720.
Visitation 1:00 - 2:00 pm Friday, February 8, 2013 at funeral home. Followed by funeral at 2:00 pm in Hartley Burgess Chapel.
