LANCASTER, SCMr. Ira Madison Estridge, age 91, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center. He was born January 5, 1926 in Lancaster, a son of the late Ira Durham Estridge and Annie Carnes Estridge. Mr. Estridge retired from South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. He was a 1949 graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Husbandry. Mr. Estridge was an avid reader, enjoyed playing and watching golf, and loved visiting Charleston, SC. Mr. Estridge served in the United States Navy and served in WWII. He was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
Mr. Estridge is survived by two brothers, Mr. Joe F. Estridge and his wife, Joanne, and Mr. Jack Estridge and his wife, Evelyn, all of Lancaster; a sister, Mrs. W.C. (Mary) Carter of Chesterfield; four nieces and one nephew.
Mr. Estridge was preceded in death by his parents, and two wives, Mrs. Hellen Harbison Estridge and Mrs. Ethel Hill Estridge.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Estridge will be 11:00 am Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church by Rev. Larry King. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 10:00 am- 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, and suggest memorial contributions be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 5908 Tabernacle Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Chrons and Colitis Foundation of America, 733 Third Avenue, Suite 510, New York, NY 10017.
