Obituary
LANCASTER, SC :::::::::::: Mr. Howard Ashley Stacks, Jr., born March 17, 1931, Howard was an accountant for Mobil Oil Corporation, working 34 years before retirement. He passed away on November 22, 2013 in Lancaster at the age of 82. His career took him from Columbia, SC to California, Colorado, and Texas and returned to his hometown of Lancaster in retirement.
Howard had a passion for hiking, biking, boating, and camping-enjoying all of nature. He was always helping others, even helping with the cleanup of Forty Acre Rock. He bought a car for his parents so they could attend the Baptist church, and paid for his brother Ray's college education as a pay forward for the other siblings to follow. He was firm in his parenting, instilling in each of his 3 children a solid work ethic as well as an enjoyment of the outdoors. His children are grateful for his understanding and continued assistance during their adult life.
Among survivors is a very special friend, Lorene McManus of Lancaster; one son, David, and two daughters, Shirley Freberg and Deborah Lazzaretto, all of whom reside in California; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Kristiana, Jennifer and Allison, and one great grandson, Jacob; brothers, Dewitt in California and Jerry of Lancaster; sisters, Louise Walters of Lancaster, Sue Cormier of Illinois, and Carolyn Cordle of Georgia.
Mr. Stacks was predeceased by sisters, Ethel Stogner and Joyce Daniels, and brother, Ray Stacks.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Stacks will be 11:00am, Tuesday morning, December 3, 2013 at Springhill Baptist Church by Rev. Brad Threatt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Family of Mr. Stacks will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00pm Monday evening, December 2, 2013 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest memorial contributions be made to Springhill Baptist Church, 2245 Old Camden Monroe Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
