LANCASTER, SC ~Mr. Herman Mearl Tucker, age 75, passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at his home. He was born June 30, 1943 in Union, SC, a son of the late Joseph Tucker and Hazel Haddock Tucker and was the husband of Phyllis Mathis Tucker. Mr. Tucker was very family oriented. He loved his family, his church, and the Lord above all. He enjoyed music and sang with several gospel groups. He had a great sense of humor, enjoyed fishing, gardening and was an avid Gamecock fan. Mr. Tucker was a member of High Point Freewill Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife of 54 years, Phyllis Mathis Tucker; two sons, Dwayne Tucker and Derick Tucker and his wife, Jo of Lancaster; a daughter, Lisha Dawn (Tucker) Drape and her husband, Terry of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Asya Drape, Jayda Drape, Emily Tucker, Mason Tucker, Tiffany Altman and Dawn Altman; three great grandchildren, Christopher Altman, Shawn and Luke Carter; and a sister; Bertie Hinson and her husband, Hampton of Heath Springs.
Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in law, Kathy Tucker; three brothers including his twin brother, Earl Tucker, Billy Tucker and Joe Tucker, Sr.; and two sisters, Velma Mackey and Boots Bowers.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Tucker will be 3:00 Sunday, December 9, 2018 at High Point Freewill Baptist Church officiated by Rev. David Sellers, Rev. James Wilhide and Rev. Howard Messer.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 pm Sunday, one hour before the service, at the church and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to High Point Freewill Baptist Church, Van Fund, 2095 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
