Obituary

LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Helen Hinnant Starnes Dixon, age 89, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at White Oak Manor.   She was born April 24, 1931 in Chester County, SC, a daughter of the late John Albert Hinnant and Catherine Theresa Harris Hinnant.  She was first married to the late Edward Lee Starnes and she later married Cecil Adell Dixon who is now deceased.  Mrs. Dixon retired from Joslyn Clark Control.  She loved gardening, working in her flowers, and watching her birds.  She was a great cook and baker, and Christmas was her favorite holiday.  Her greatest joy came from traveling and spending time with her family.  She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Dixon is survived by a son, Mark Edward Starnes and his wife, Vicki of Jefferson, GA, and a daughter, Sandra Starnes Cauthen and her husband, Al of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Lindsay Victoria Starnes, Eden Nicole Starnes, Kelly Cauthen Marshall and her husband, Chris, and Trey Alan Cauthen; a great granddaughter, Logan Kennedy Marshall and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dixon was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John Albert Hinnant, Jr. and wife, Mattie, Watt Kennedy "W.K." Hinnant and wife, Betty and Charles Audley "Buddy" Hinnant and wife, Kathleen; two sisters, Theresa Hinnant Rowen and husband, Chuck and Inez Hinnant Duren and husband, Jim.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Dixon will be 11:00 am Friday, February 26, 2021 at St. Luke United Methodist Church by Rev. Perry Evatt.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Social distancing and masks are required. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.

The family would like to send a special heartfelt thanks to the White Oak staff for being kind and loving caregivers for the four years she lived there.  They were her family too, especially during this trying year of Covid.  Also, a special heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Lingoes and Providence Care Hospice for their compassionate and loving care for their Mom.
