Obituary

LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Harry Walker Roddey, age 83, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2013. He was born May 15, 1930 in Chester County, a son of the late Belven B. Roddey, Sr. and Juanita Dunn Roddey and was the husband of Louise Taylor Roddey. Harry was a long-time resident of Lancaster where he was a member of White Springs Baptist Church. As a member of his church, he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher for many years, adult choir member, senior adult choir member, and held various other positions in the church. He worked for Springs Industries from 1948 to 1987, where he worked in environmental at the filter plant. After retiring from Springs, he worked for Duracell from 1987 to 1999 also in the environmental department. Harry is most noted by colleagues and friends for his smile and friendliness. He loved to work in the yard and cook. But most of all, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, sons in law and great grandchildren.

Mr. Roddey is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise Taylor Roddey of the home, two daughters, Deborah Roddey Williams and her husband Howard of Lancaster, Donna Roddey Hagins and her husband Mike of Lancaster, three grandchildren, Alison Williams Shehane and her husband Gary of Lancaster, Scott Hagins of Columbia, and Tara Williams Pitts and her husband Dean of Blythewood, four great grandchildren, Hunter Shehane, Grayson Walker Shehane, Taylor Dawkins, and Larson Pitts, a sister, Bernice Miller of Chester, a brother, Carlisle Roddey and his wife Lois of Chester, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Roddey was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters, Belven B. Roddey, Jr., Aileen Knox, and Eloise Bagley.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Roddey will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at White Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Steven Owens, Rev. Charles Hammond and Mr. Tim Dippel. Entombment will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The Family of Mr. Roddey will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:30 - 3:00 PM in the Family Life Center of White Springs Baptist Church and other times at the home of Louise Roddey and family. The family suggests memorial contributions to White Springs Baptist Church, 1249 Grace Avenue, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Hospice of South Carolina, 412 N. White Street, Suite A, Lancaster, SC 29720.
