ROCK HILL, SC – Mr. Harry Hazen, age 98, passed away Friday July 26, 2024. He was born April 13, 1926, in Midland Park, NJ, a son of the late Herman G. Hazen and Sadie Vriesema Hazen. For 73 years, he was the loving husband of the late Madeline Elenor Garrabrant Hazen. Mr. Hazen proudly served in The United States Army during the Korean Conflict. For over 45 years, he was employed by Morrison Machinery, where he retired. He began as a draftsman in Patterson, NJ and later was transferred to Fort Lawn, SC to establish the sales department. In that role, he coordinated company textile-show exhibits in Europe and the United States. In previous years, he coached Pony League baseball and was the league coordinator for Lancaster. Mr. Hazen was an avid sports fan and loved attending Duke basketball and football games and many Charlotte Catholic High School sporting events. Throughout his life, Mr. Hazen enjoyed singing. He sang in choirs at Zion Lutheran Church in Saddle River, NJ, Reformation Lutheran Church in Lancaster, SC, and Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill, SC. He later joined the Voices of Experience Choir at Westminster Towers, Rock Hill, SC. Mr. Hazen was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Rock Hill for over 25 years, and was also in the Lions Club.
Mr. Hazen is survived by his son, Ken Hazen (Elaine); two grandchildren, Robert Hazen, and Marylia Hazen Geertz (Michael); his brother, Herm Hazen (Pat); his brother-in-law, Bill Lent; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 73 years, Madeline, three brothers: Gary, Hank, and Len; and his sister, Nell Hazen Lent.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Burgess Funeral Home, Lancaster, SC. The Memorial Service for Mr. Hazen will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Heritage Hall in Westminster Towers, Rock Hill, where Mr. Hazen was a resident.
