Obituary

CHARLOTTE, NC ~ Mr. Harold Howard. On Sunday October 23, 2022, God put his everlasting arms around Harold as the angel sealed his lips and took him home to be with him. Harold was born September 23, 1935, in Savannah, GA. He was the first born son of Chappelle and Lillie Mae Howard. He was baptized at First Evergreen Baptist Church, Savannah, GA at age 12. Harold began his formal education in the Chatham County Public School. He graduated from Alfred Ely Beach High School in 1953. That same year, he enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and served four years. Later in life, he earned an Associate Degree in Social Science from Bronx Community College.

Harold married Barbara A. Capers in 1954 and they had four children. In 1966 desiring a better life for his family, he relocated his family to Queens, NY while working for the United States Postal Service. In 1997 he married Lottie M. Stevens of Jamaica, NY and worked as a caterer. After Lottie's passing in 2008, he relocated to Charlotte, NC desiring to be closer to his children.

Those left to cherish his memory are his four children, Kenneth Howard of Savannah, GA, Terri Howard of Lancaster, SC, Pamela Burris of Charlotte, NC, and Cheryl Robinson (Sammie) of Springfield, GA; two granddaughters, LaShawn Brewster of Lancaster, SC and Cherelle Thomas of Savannah, GA; one great grandson, Franklin Wright; and one great-great granddaughter; seven great-great grandsons; two sisters, Helen Moore of Spartanburg, SC and Lillie B. Moore of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Minister John Carr (Janice) of Jacksonville, FL; a devoted companion, Betty Johnson of Savannah, GA; a devoted friend and caregiver, Linda Alexander of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service for Harold will be 2:00 pm Friday, October 28, 2022, at Memorial United Methodist Church, 4012 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205 officiated by Reverend Amelia Stinson-Wesley. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the church sanctuary.
