LANCASTER, SC~ Mr. James Harold Gay, age 87, of Lancaster met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 MUSC-Lancaster. He was born on March 12, 1934 in Heath Springs, a son of the late John Henry Gay and Sallie Hendrix Gay Hughes and was the husband of his loving wife Glenda Seegars Gay.

He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church where he was maintenance chairman for many years and was in charge of redesigning the sanctuary and building the new sound booth. He loved his church and church family. He was a member of Jackson Lodge no. 53 where he served as secretary for many years. He held many offices in the local lodge as well as the Grand Lodge. He proudly served in the United States Navy for four years where he served in the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of 26 and a half years, Glenda Seegars Gay; three daughters, Janet G. Edwards, Cathy G. Smith (Gary), both of Lancaster, Cynthia G. Williams of Charleston. One son, James (Jamie) Gay, Jr. of Lancaster. Four Stepsons: William J. Beard (Ginger) of Ashville, R. Neal Beard, Randy Craig Beard (Becky), Garth B. Beard, all of Lancaster. Three grandsons: Scott Edwards (Gina), Brad Williams, Troy Smith. Two granddaughters: Christy Smith, and Megan (Joel) Sirianni. Six great-grandchildren: Kasey, Graham, Brayden, Paisley, Alyvia, and Levi. Four step great-grandchildren, Nolan, Braxton, Danielle, and Keri. Four step great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Austin, Blake, and Riley. Two great, great grandchildren, Adalynn and Clayton.

He was preceded in death by one daughter: Linda and five sisters: Mildred Snipes, Edith Dean, Sara Granata, Ina Strickland, and Margarette Farmer.

The Celebration of Life Service for James will be 3:00pm Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Sherwood Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Rusty McAllister and Rev. Steve Anglin. Burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 pm one hour prior to the service, Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Sherwood Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sherwood Baptist Church, PO Box 813, Lancaster, SC 29721.
