PAWLEY'S ISLAND, SC ::::::::::: Mrs. Gloria Grantham Emanuel passed away on Sunday, May 04, 2014, in Pawley's Island, South Carolina after an extended illness.
She was born in Quincy, FL, on December 30, 1932, the only daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Taylor Frederick Grantham. Mrs. Emanuel attended the Gadsden County schools before attending Converse College in Spartanburg, SC.
Along with her late husband Phil, Mrs. Emanuel opened Emanuel's Jewelers in Lancaster, SC where they both worked until closing the business in 1978. In 1979, the Emanuels moved to Georgetown, SC, where they founded and operated Fogel's Diamonds until their retirement in 1982.
Mrs. Emanuel was a member of Saint Paul's Waccamaw United Methodist Church in Pawley's Island and was previously a member of First United Methodist Church of Lancaster.
Mrs. Emanuel is survived by her daughter Gloria Marene Emanuel; her son Philip Grantham Emanuel and his son Philip R.; her son Taylor Cummings Emanuel, his wife Karen and their children Taylor T., Sara and Austin; her great granddaughter Audrey Emma Halsey; her brother in law E. H. Emanuel; her sisters in law Mrs. B. F. Emanuel and Mrs. W.Y. Emanuel; numerous nieces and nephews; and her godsons James Franklin Kay and William Clarence Kay of Kernersville, NC.
In addition to her husband, Philip Hough Emanuel and her parents, Mrs. Emanuel was preceded in death by her stepfather, C.W. Thomas, Jr. and her brother Taylor F. Grantham.
The Graveside Funeral Service for Mrs. Emanuel will be 11:00 am Friday, May 9, 2014 at Lancaster Memorial Park in Lancaster, SC by Rev. Philip G. Emanuel. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, May 12, 2014 at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church by Rev. Philip G. Emanuel in Pawley's Island, SC.
