LANCASTER, SC::::::::::: Rev. Gipsie Martin Miller, age 101, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Lancaster Convalescent Center. She was born November 12, 1907 in Persia, TN the daughter of the late William Martin and Sallie King Martin and was the wife of the late Dewey Oliver Miller. Mrs. Miller received a life-changing call from God as a teenager. Following God's call she became an ordained minister in 1952. She founded the Wesleyan Women's Ministries through Community Missions and served in various capacities in the Wesleyan Women's Missionary Society; including: president, director and chairman for over fifty years. She authored a litany of books and periodicals for the Wesleyan Church; including The History of the Women's Missionary Society, Tools for the Task, The Leaders Guide and Pilgrimage to the Promised Land. Rev. Miller was survived by a son, Donald Miller and his wife Benita of Lancaster, 4 grandchildren, Becki Gardner, Brenda Emmons, Beth Beatham, and Benay Starnes, 8 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.Rev. Miller was preceded in death by a brother, Paul B. Martin and a special cousin, Sarah Cuthbertson.The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Rev. Miller will be 12:30 pm, Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at United Wesleyan Church in Charlotte, NC by Rev. Scott Wheeler and Rev. Henry Williams. Burial will follow at 3:00pm in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. The Family of Rev. Miller will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 Monday, December 1, 2008 at Hartley Funeral Home and also from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm, Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at the church and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to United Wesleyan church 2601 Rocky River Road, Charlotte NC 28213 or Hospice of South Carolina, 412 N. White Street, Suite A, Lancaster SC 29720.
