LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. George Walter 'Dud' Phillips, age 90, passed away on Monday, February 21, 2022. He was born May 27, 1931, in Lancaster, SC, son of the late Whiteford Joseph Phillips and Hattie Helen Rollins Phillips. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and a retiree from Springs Industries. Dud was a beloved father and grandfather who spent his time and energy helping and taking care of those he loved. He was a talented singer, skilled mechanic, and prolific furniture builder for his family and friends. Dud had no greater pleasure than spending time with his children and their families.

Survivors include one daughter, Sara Phillips Simpson (Richard); four sons, Tim Phillips (Lynn), Kerry Phillips (Glenda), Andy Phillips (Bridget), all of Lancaster; and Kevin Phillips (Pam) of Easley, SC; thirteen grandchildren, Walt Simpson, Erin Simpson Lozier (Sam), Will Simpson (Logan), Lane Phillips (Victoria), Meryl Phillips, Mark Phillips, Sara Phillips, Leah Phillips Dawson (Tyler), Connor Phillips (Breana), Noah Phillips, Anna Phillips, Logan Phillips and John Mark Phillips; five great-grandchildren, Willa Claire Lozier, Graham Lozier, Jaxon Phillips, Lawson Phillips, and Ada Kate Phillips-Horne; four sisters, Betty Catoe of Lake Wylie, Miriam Cauthen of Camden, and Mary Lou Mosely (Billy) and Doris Hammond (Paul) of Lancaster.

Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Camilla 'Mickey' Barrineau Phillips, by triplet children who died as newborns, Joan, Janice, and Joel Phillips, and by a brother, Thomas Phillips.

Services will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, February 25, 2022, in the Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home in Lancaster. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service at Burgess Funeral Home. Graveside services at Lancaster Memorial Park will follow the funeral services.
