Obituary

INDIAN LAND, SC~ George R Bruhns, Jr, age 94, of Indian Land, SC peacefully went to be with his Lord on Monday, December 16, 2024, at his Sun City Carolina Lakes home. He was born on February 22,1930 in New London, CT.

George enjoyed his younger years in DeMolay, New London, CT and then as a Freemason. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. George received metals for his service from CT and the "Ambassador for Peace" from Korea. Throughout George's life, he was seldom seen without wearing his Korean War Vet baseball cap.

George was attending Mitchell College in New London, CT when he met his wife of 64 years, Eleonore. Eleonore immigrated from Germany to New London in 1955 and married George on September 24, 1955. The couple had five children, one of which died at childbirth. They lived in Old Lyme, Enfield, & Bloomfield, CT before moving to Indian Land, SC in 2006.

George earned a BA in Business Administration from Western New England University by attending night school while working full-time, part-time, and raising his family. George worked at Pratt & Whitney and then Combustion Engineering until he retired in 1987.

George loved people, eating healthily, wearing his famous cut-off sleeveless shirts along with his Korean War Vet baseball cap; and after his wife's passing, his beloved visits from Mary Jewell & Mike Gutowski, and, especially, their sweet dog, Buddy. George was loved and embraced by the community of Antioch International Church, Fort Mill, SC, of which George's family is eternally grateful for.

George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Beatrice Bruhns of Old Lyme, CT, his sister Marion Wells of Waterford, CT, and his beloved wife, Eleonore of Indian Land, SC. Left to cherish the memory of George are; his sister Barbara Banks of Grand Isle, VT; his sister-in-law Edelgard Edgeland of Indian Land, SC; his children: Maria (David) Scagliola of The Villages, FL, George (Robin Capuano) Bruhns of Avon, CT, Rita (David) Cremisi of The Villages, FL & Barry (Beverly) Bruhns of Monroe, NC; his seven grandchildren & nine great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, March 1st from 2 pm – 4 pm in Sun City at the Lake House, 1353 Del Webb Blvd, Indian Land, SC. George & Eleonore will be buried in their family plot located at Duck River Cemetery in Old Lyme, CT.
