LANCASTER, SC :::::::::: Mr. Robert Eugene "Gene" Grier, age 95, of 886 Hilldale Drive, died Friday, January 29, 2010. He was born October 3, 1914 in Andrews, SC, the son of the late Grover Cleveland Grier, Sr. and Jettie Elizabeth Brockington Grier and was the husband of Oneida Hunter Grier. Mr. Grier retired from Springs Industries and was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Grier is survived by his wife of 65 years, Oneida Hunter Grier of the home, one son, Joe Grier and his wife Sara of Lancaster, one daughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Grier Steele and her husband Johnny of Lancaster, four grandchildren, Tammy Echols, Pamela Ledbetter, Melissa Rollings, and Tonya McNabb, nine great grandchildren, Dena Orrell, Jonathan and Zachary Rollings, Avarie McNabb, Josh Low, Daphne Honeycutt, and Alexas, Cooper and Steven Ledbetter, three great-great grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie and Logan Orrell, two step great grandchildren, Ryan and Stacy Echols and a special friend, 10-year old Savannah Weaver who called him Pop. Mr. Grier was preceded in death by three brothers, G. C. Grier, Marion Grier and T.R. Grier and two sisters, Louise Barrineau and Odessa Catoe.The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Grier will be 3:00 pm Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church by Rev. Arthur Vick, Rev. Tony Adams and Rev. Keith Walters with burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. The Family of Mr. Grier will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Saturday evening, January 30, 2010 at Hartley Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1664 Flat Creek Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.The Family will be at the home of his son, Joe Grier, 1043 Hilldale Drive, Lancaster.
