LANCASTER, SC ~ Lowery Eugene "Gene" Denton, age 75, passed away Monday, March 8, 2021 at his home. Gene was born November 1, 1945 in Lancaster a son of the late Albert Lee Denton and Sally Mae Hamilton Denton and was the husband of Sheila Caskey Denton. Gene was an avid golfer, who loved to play and watch and was also an avid Gamecock fan. He enjoyed his work as a mail carrier with the United Postal Service. Gene loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could. Gene was a member of New Life Christian Assembly Church, where he loved to serve and was a board member.

Gene is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sheila Denton; a daughter, Kimberly Denton Williams (Matt); two sons, Gary Denton, and Tim Denton; six grandchildren and one on the way; ten great grandchildren; and three sisters, Margie Whitt, Barbara Horton, JoAnn Mungo.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Denton, and Alvin Denton; and three sisters, Brenda Stallings, Kay Walden, and Vickie Faulkenberry.

Gene donated his body to science at USC School of Medicine in Columbia.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Gene will be 11:00am Thursday, March 11, 2021 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Frank Jordan. Social distancing will be practiced, and masks are required.
