Obituary

LANCASTER, SC ~ Frank Roland Ghent, 78, passed away at his home Thursday, August 22, 2019 surrounded by his loving family and friends.  He was born January 7, 1941, the son of the late Frank Ghent and Annie Ruth Shoemake Ghent and was the devoted husband of the late Linda Faye Plyler Ghent for 48 years.

Mr. Ghent retired from Springs Industries where he was employed for 48 years.  He was the oldest of eleven children and was especially proud of his family.  Mr. Ghent was a lifelong member of Hyde Park Baptist Church and loved singing in the church choir.  He enjoyed working around his church and taking care of the family lake with his beloved fur baby, Chester.  He was an accomplished welder and enjoyed fishing.  Mr. Ghent was a Mason and a Shriner.

Mr. Ghent is survived by four brothers, John Douglas "Doug" Ghent (Gloria), Robert J. Ghent "Bob" (Joy), Crawford Lynn Ghent (Valorie), and Edward Lee Ghent (Kim); five sisters, Fran Ghent Walters (Modie), Louise Ghent Wuori (Randy), Debbie Ghent House (Joe), Kathy Ghent Snipes (Tod), and Susan Ghent Taylor (Mitchell); over forty-five nieces and nephews; and two cousins, Harriett Barton Dixon of Columbia, SC and Diane Barton Strickler of Greenville, SC.

Mr. Ghent was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Ghent; his parents, Frank and Annie Ruth Ghent; maternal grandparents, Ervin and Queen Shoemake; paternal grandparents, Roland and Hattie Ghent; a sister, Anne Ghent Robinson; and two nephews, Bryan Taylor and Jody House.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Ghent will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Hyde Park Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Charlie Simpson.  Interment at Lancaster Memorial Park will follow service.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 pm, prior to the service, in the church memorial center and other times at the home of Lee and Kim Ghent.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hyde Park Baptist Church, 1898 Flat Creek Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or the American Cancer Society, Lancaster Co. Relay for Life, 1901 Brunswick Ave., Ste 100, Charlotte, NC 28207.
