INDIAN LAND, SC - Mr. Frank A. Fratoe, age 85, born December 10, 1940, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026, surrounded by love.

Frank was a deeply intelligent, thoughtful, and accomplished man whose life was defined by service, curiosity, and a profound appreciation for both people and ideas. He graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University before earning his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania, where he pursued his passion for sociology and understanding the human experience.

Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was recognized early for his excellence.

Following his military service, Frank built a distinguished career in public service, dedicating 25 years to the federal government as a sociologist and program analyst. He worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency, helping expand opportunities for minority business owners. He also conducted research with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and served as an assistant professor at Rutgers University. His work was widely respected, and his contributions were recognized with multiple awards for outstanding performance.

A gifted and published poet, Frank found meaning in words and used them to reflect on life, faith, resilience, and—most notably—love. His poetry was featured in Front Porch Fredericksburg, where he became known to many as “The Poetry Man.” Through his writing, Frank captured both the beauty of everyday moments and the deeper truths that often go unspoken.

At the center of Frank’s life was his beloved wife, Jane, who was truly the love of his life. Jane, a devoted educator and music teacher, shared with Frank a life grounded in learning, creativity, and deep connection. Their bond endured through time, and in his writing, he often returned to her—through poems, cards, and reflections that captured a love both enduring and deeply felt. In the days following his passing, those closest to him gathered to read the words he had written to her, a testament to a love that never faded.

Frank also spent many years coaching and umpiring youth baseball, something he came to truly enjoy from his many years as a loyal baseball fan and supporter of his beloved Cleveland Indians.

Frank is survived by his sons, Anthony Fratoe (sons Santino and Angelo) and Michael Fratoe (wife Alexa; children Ella and Max). He is also survived by his nieces, Julie and June, and nephews, Joe and Perry. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Cooney Fratoe; his parents, Joseph I. Fratoe and Mary L. Fratoe (Corso); his sister, Marilyn S. Gramuglia; and his brother, Joseph M. Fratoe.

A private burial will take place in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where Frank will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Jane. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
