LANCASTER, SC.........Mr. Francis Alvin Bosdell, Sr., age 96, formerly of Clemson, died Monday, November 16, 2015 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born July 20, 1919 in Abbeville, SC, a son of the late William Addison Bosdell and Mary Edwards Bosdell and was the husband of the late Grace Clark Bosdell. Mr. Bosdell was a 1949 graduate of Clemson University and later returned to receive his Master's Degree. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He spent his career across South Carolina as District Superintendent of Industrial Education and retired from the State Department of Education at Clemson University as the State Director of Teacher Re-certification for Vocational Schools. He was an Umpire for the SC High School League, NCAA and for National Softball Tournaments. He was inducted into the SC Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame, was an avid golfer and a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bosdell is survived by two daughters, Deborah Bosdell Hegler and her husband, Joe of Lancaster and Melissa Bosdell Wellman and her husband, Gregory of Huntersville, NC; a son, Francis Alvin "Al" Bosdell, Jr. and his wife, Melony of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Gregory Wellman, Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, Jessica W. Merrey and her husband, Patrick, Lindsay W. McClintock and her husband, Justin, Francis Alvin "Tre" Bosdell, III and his wife, Nicole, Martina B. Cathey and her husband, Michael and Danielle Bosdell; seven great grandchildren and a sister, Gladys Lawson of Greenwood.
Mr. Bosdell was preceded in death by a brother, William Preston Bosdell and a sister, Lavinia Carpenter.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Bosdell will be 11:00 am Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Pendleton United Methodist Church in Pendleton, SC by Rev. Mel Arant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Wednesday evening, November 18, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster.
