LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Francine Sowell Killough, age 85, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at her home. She was born January 27, 1938, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Sowell, Sr. and Sula Knight Sowell Langley. Mrs. Killough's greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother, she loved each of them wholeheartedly. She was always their number one fan. Mrs. Killough loved fishing, gardening, Elvis Pressley, and baseball.  Her family states she was a wonderful cook.  Mrs. Killough was a homemaker and enjoyed working with flowers. She had a wonderful sense of humor, strong faith, and was such a selfless person.  She put everyone before herself and always found good in everyone.

Mrs. Killough is survived by three sons, Danny Killough (Kathy), Kent Killough (Dawn), Greg Killough (Jennifer); three daughters, Kim Cnesich (John), Allison Ellis (Donnie), Wendy Newton (Darryl); seven grandchildren, Caleb McCray, Jordan McCray (Sara Kate), Kristen Anderson (Steve), Sara Newton (John Adams), Kinley Killough, Gracie Killough Joyner (CJ), Connor Killough (Megan); five great grandchildren, Brody Anderson, Cohen McCray, Layton McCray, Madelyn McCray, Henry McCray; a brother, Jimmy Sowell; and a sister, Reba Hallman.

Mrs. Killough was preceded in death by her husband, John Colin Killough; a son, Benjie Killough; a brother, Frank Sowell, Jr.; and a sister, Jewell Steele.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Killough will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 2, 2023, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Daniel Porter.  Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00, one hour prior, to the service at Burgess Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Westside Cemetery.

The family would like to thank her special caregivers, Libby Fleming and Renee Cook, for the wonderful care given to their mother.
