LANCASTER, SC :::::::::::Mrs. Frances McManus Funderburk Whitaker, age 77, died Thursday, June 07, 2012 at Lancaster Convalescent Center after suffering from Lewy Body Dementia for many years. She was born September 21, 1934 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Ganson McManus and Minnie Hinson McManus and was the wife of the late Floyd Whitaker. Mrs. Whitaker retired from Springs Industries after 40 years of service. In the years following her retirement she was a compassionate caregiver to many in Lancaster, was a faithful Christian and a member of Union Baptist Church. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her kindness and love was shown to everyone she met. Mrs. Whitaker is survived by a son, Ray Funderburk and his wife Karen, a daughter, Frankie Sistare, a brother, Bill McManus, and a sister, Roxie Morgan all of Lancaster, 6 grandchildren, Brian Sistare, Kelly Hegler, Missy Kennington, Tracey Wilson, Alyson Wright and Kelsey Sistare, and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Martha White, Flossie Jenkins, Ollie Sims, Permelia Ballard and Mary Ellen McManus, and 2 brothers, J.D. McManus and Charlie McManus. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Whitaker will be 11:00 am, Saturday, June 9, 2012 at The Chapel of Hartley Funeral Home by Rev. Jackie Jenkins and Rev. Dr. Rhett Wilson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. The Family of Mrs. Whitaker will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Friday, June 8, 2012 at Hartley Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son Ray Funderburk, 4887 Taxahaw Road, Lancaster.
