LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::: Mrs. Frances Hughes Brown, age 83, a long-time resident of Lancaster, South Carolina died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at her home. She was born April 5, 1926 in Spartanburg, SC, the daughter of the late Charles Boling Hughes and Nell Crain Hughes and was the wife of Benjamin Alexander Brown, Jr. Mrs. Brown was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She greatly enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. She also loved her church family at First Baptist in Lancaster. She was an avid reader and had an eye for decorating; and she worked hard to make her home a warm and inviting place for those she loved. She was a member of the Garden Club and also loved flowers and flower arranging. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband Benjamin Alexander Brown, Jr., her daughters, Deborah Brown Nipe of Rock Hill, SC and Bonnie Brown Alexander and her husband Sam of Rock Hill, SC, her grandchildren, Jennifer Nipe Anderssen (David) of Greenville, SC, John Benjamin Nipe (Amy) of Rock Hill, Susan Alexander Roberson (Keith) of York, SC, Patrick David Alexander of Charlotte, NC, and Jordan Brown Alexander of Charleston, SC, and her great-grandchildren, Eleanor Rose Nipe, Eli Walker Anderssen, Evan Henry Anderssen, Callum Grey Anderssen, Kate Frances Roberson, and Anna Caroline Roberson, and a sister, Peggy Hughes Pack (Ron) of Spartanburg.Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Brent Harlan Hughes and Charles Llewelyn "Butch" Hughes.The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Brown will be 3:30 pm, Thursday afternoon, December 10, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Lancaster, 300 South Market Street, Lancaster, SC by Rev. David Pace. A private graveside service will take place earlier Thursday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Spartanburg.The Family will receive friends one hour before the service Thursday, from 2:30 - 3:30 pm in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, and suggest in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29721.
