LANCASTER, SC :::: Mr. Fenton E. Rodgers, Sr., age 84, died Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born February 14, 1931 in Lancaster, the son of the late Seth E. Rodgers and Texie Rose Collins Rodgers and was the husband of the late Margie Ann Cauthen Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers served our great country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was the sole survivor of his Platoon and was rescued by the Red Cross after months of hiding from the North Koreans. Mr. Rodgers was self-employed, the owner of R and R Air Conditioning Company, where he became friends with the Close family. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He attended Bible Study every Wednesday and the Men's Prayer Breakfast every Friday while staying at Morningside. Mr. Rodgers was known for his wood working skills, cabinet making and building homes. His talents were not limited to wood working skills, he was known as the "clock man" for his love of repairing clocks. During his stay at Morningside he dedicated his time, patience and talent putting puzzles together that could be framed and auctioned to raise money for the Alzheimer's Foundation Research in memory of his late wife, Margie C. Rodgers.
Mr. Rodgers is survived by three sons, Fenton E. "Chuck" Rodgers, Jr., Seth Andrew Rodgers and his wife Sandra and Quinton McMurray Rodgers and his wife Cindy; five grandchildren, Taylor Rodgers, Tyler Rodgers, Faynette Waldrop, Kristen Boykin and Devin Rodgers; four great grandchildren, Gunner Deas, Abby Waldrop, Gabby Waldrop and Kanaan Morgan; one brother, Robert Neil Rodgers, and a sister, Sarah Rodgers Burns.
Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Rodgers.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Rodgers will be 3:30 pm, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Dr. Brian Saxon, Rev. Larry Helms, and Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family of Mr. Rodgers will receive friends from 2:30 - 3:30 Tuesday at Burgess Funeral Home and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
