LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Evelyn Guthrie Jones, age 89, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 14, 1937, in Marshall, NC, the daughter of the late Laymon Doyle Guthrie, Sr. and the late Clara Beatrice Metcalf Guthrie and was the wife of the late Kenneth Allen Jones.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and Nanny. She spent her life caring for others with quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication. Known for her hard-working spirit, she approached every part of life with determination and grace. Whether caring for her family, or creating a warm and welcoming home to everyone, she found joy in the simple moments that mattered most.

She treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. From laughter-filled afternoons to treasured family gatherings, the love she shared with them will remain a lasting gift in their hearts forever.

Though dementia slowly changed many things in recent years, it never erased the warmth, love, and comfort she gave so freely throughout her life. Her family will remember her for her gentle heart, her resilience, and the deep love she carried for those closest to her.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly and continue to honor her memories through the love, traditions, and values she passed down through generations.

She will be forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter, Pamela Hamilton (Shane); her four grandchildren, Kristopher Hamilton (Marissa), Shana Burgess (Josh), Danielle Segers (Will), and Kalyn Jorgensen (Tim); her six great-grandchildren, Wyatt Hamilton, Griffin Burgess, Parker Burgess, Charlotte Segers, Spencer Jorgensen, and Hudson Jorgensen; her brother, Grant Guthrie (Virginia); her two sisters, Patricia “Pat” Penland, and Lib Johnson (Fred); and many special family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Jones; her parents, Doyle and Beatrice Guthrie; three brothers, Boyd Guthrie, Laymon Guthrie, and Charles Guthrie; and two sisters, Joanne Guthrie, and Kay Adams.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Jones will be 2:00pm Saturday, May 23, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Michael Ritter.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
