LANCASTER, SC::: Mr. Eugene "Gene" Catoe, age 78, of 2078 Knight Road, died April 6, 2011 at his home. He was born September 21, 1932 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Seaborn Catoe and Eunice Knight Catoe Bigham. Mr. Catoe served his country in the US Army, with a tour in Korea and retired from the US Air Force as a Master Sergeant, with tours in Thailand and Vietnam. After retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Catoe worked as Cafeteria Manager for Springs Industries - Lancaster Plant and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. Gene loved his family, to tell a joke, work on old cars, and meet with "The Board" at McDonalds. Mr. Catoe is survived by his British Bride of 51 years, Doreen Catoe, a daughter, Carol Catoe Hinson and her husband James M. Hinson, III of Mooresville, NC and a son, Rev. James Edward Catoe and his wife Shayne of Church Hill, MD, 4 grandchildren; Caleb and Anna Catoe and Jillian and Jennifer Hinson, 2 sisters, Mary Jane "Sarah" Webster and her husband William of Lancaster and Elizabeth "Libby" Hunter and her husband Mickey of Rock Hill, SC and, 2 brothers, Clyde Catoe and his wife Sue of Lancaster and Edward Catoe and his wife Mary of Lancaster, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family appreciates the loving care of Dr. Kashvap Patel and all of the Carolina Blood and Cancer Center Associates Staff. Gratitude and love are also extended to Agape Hospice for their love, care and support during Gene's final weeks. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Catoe will be 5:00 pm Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church. The Family of Mr. Catoe will receive friends from 4:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Thompson Family Life Center and in lieu of flowers suggests memorial contributions to Zion United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 1665 Zion Road, Lancaster, or Agape Hospice, 1317 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
