LANCASTER, SC – Eric Sorensen, 63, of Lancaster, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2026. Born on March 8, 1963, in Racine, Wisconsin, Eric lived a life marked by dedication, fitness, and an enduring love for those around him.
Eric graduated from J I Case High School in Racine and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Concordia University. His education laid the foundation for a career defined by hard work and excellence. He began his journey as an Information Technology professional at CaseIH, where he also met the love of his life, Deb. Their connection blossomed over shared laughter during game nights playing the PC game Leisure Suit Larry with friends and colleagues. Eric later worked briefly at Snap On before finding his long-term professional home at Abbott Laboratories, which later became AbbVie. Known for his commitment and deep technical knowledge, Eric was highly regarded for his expertise and willingness to help his colleagues.
Eric’s life was enriched by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Deb Sorensen; his daughter Sara Johnson (Grant) of Indian Land, SC; his brother Karl Sorensen (Steve Weigel) of Nice, France; and his sister Anita Ford (Don) of Oviedo, FL; nephew Jordan Ford (Nicole) and niece Jessica Corcoran (Josh), as well as grand nephews and nieces, cousins, and close friends in South Carolina, Wisconsin, and Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Norita Sorensen.
A man of boundless energy and curiosity, Eric found joy in a wide array of activities that kept him moving and learning. Long before he became known for his discipline and dedication, Eric was known for the mischief he got into with his lifelong best friend, Tom Lee, and the rest of the Lee boys. Together they managed to find adventure wherever they went, creating stories that would be retold and laughed about for decades. As an adult, he found joy in cooking new recipes, exercising daily through cycling and weightlifting, researching investment opportunities, and tinkering with technology, and Eric approached every task with enthusiasm and discipline. From assembling an aquarium lid for his daughter to updating their home with cutting-edge technology, he relished every opportunity to challenge himself and share these experiences with others.
Eric’s passion for life extended beyond personal pursuits; he inspired those around him to embrace health and vitality. His legacy lives on in every physical challenge undertaken by those who knew him and in the fleeting beauty of every goldfinch that graces the sky.
May Eric’s memory serve as a source of strength and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. A visitation will be held on June 20, 2026, at 2:00 PM followed by a service at 3:00 PM at Burgess Funeral Home in, Lancaster, South Carolina. A Celebration of Life will be held in his hometown of Racine, Wisconsin at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Eric’s name to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
