LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Janie Elizabeth Marshall Harper, age 97, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021.  She was born August 4, 1924, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late Samuel Robert Marshall and Cora Lee Baker Marshall and was the wife of the late Richard Jefferson Harper.  Mrs. Harper enjoyed working in her garden and knitting. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for her family and friends. She always looked forward to family gatherings where she loved making homemade red velvet "red felt" cake. She enjoyed working at the Elgin Fire Department BBQ's. Mrs. Harper loved her family dearly and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. Mrs. Harper was a lifelong member at St. Luke United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Harper is survived by her children, Shirley Kirk, Audrey Bailey, Elaine Pate (Terry), Lynn Usher (Terry), and Becky Outen (Gary); two sisters, Gladys Moore, Sara Joyce Griffin; one brother, Sammie Marshall; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jefferson Harper; a son, Harold Richard Harper; one grandchild; her parents, Samuel and Cora Marshall; two sons-in-laws, Reece Kirk, and James Bailey; three brothers, George Marshall, Boyce Marshall, and Frank Marshall; four sisters, Kathleen Harper, Myrtle Hagins, Ida Mae Ellis, and Robbie White.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Harper will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at St. Luke United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Eddie Usher. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Social distancing will be practiced, and mask are recommended.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, in the Welcome Center. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Rd. Lancaster, SC 29720.
