LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. D.V. "Smitty" Smith, Jr., age 84, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home. He was born July 10, 1930 in Union County, NC, the son of the late Dee Vernual Smith, Sr. and Lydia Hammonds Smith and was the husband of Star Tyson Smith. Mr. Smith retired from Jim Lineberger Construction and was an active member of Taylors Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for White Oak Manor.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Star T. Smith, 2 sons, Tony Ray Smith, Sr. of Lancaster and Scott Smith and his wife Lee of Lexington, a brother, Eugene Smith of Lancaster, 4 sisters, Vivian Flake of Wadesboro, Sara Ellen Horne of Charlotte, Annie Lee Winfield of Wadesboro, and Patsy Smith of Wingate, 2 grandchildren, Tony Ray Smith, Jr. and Pamela Michelle Collins, 4 great granddaughters, Heather Denkins, Kelly Caskey, Chelsea Smith and Kendall Smith, and a great-great grandson, Dallas Denkins.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Magdalene McCollum.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Smith will be 11:00 am Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Taylors Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Tom Howell and Rev. Mike Hammond. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Family of Mr. Smith will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 Monday, July 14, 2014 at Burgess Funeral Home and the family suggests memorials be made to Taylors Grove Baptist Church, 2382 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720 or Hospice of Lancaster, 902 W. Meeting Street, Lancaster, SC 29720.
