LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Douglas Noel Harper, age 76, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at MUSC-Lancaster. He was born May 9, 1943 in Lancaster, SC, a son of the late Gilbert Harper and Dorothy Dorough Massey. Mr. Harper was a drummer for 65 plus years and played in several different bands. He was a very successful family man, who was very understanding and happy go lucky. Mr. Harper spent a good part of his life in Marietta, GA before returning home to Lancaster. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
Mr. Harper is survived by two sons, London Harper and Phaim Harper and his wife, Nancy; four grandchildren, Hampton Harper, Dalton Harper, Kellen Harper, and Dillon Harper; the mother of his children, Linda Harper Hoffner; four brothers, Wallace Harper, Gary Harper, Randy Massey, and Ben Massey; two sisters, Tammy Massey and Peggy Snipes; a sister-in-law, Pat Harper; five nephews, Lee Harper, Jeff Harper, Duane Harper, Brian Allen, and Dustin Truesdale; and five nieces, Melanie Brown Alvarez, Tiffany Helms Mahaffey, Kenna Massey, Michelle Allen Swindell, and Heather Massey.
Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Bill Massey; and a brother, Wendell Harper.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Harper will be 4:00 pm Thursday, February 6, 2020 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-4:00 pm, one hour prior to service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
