WAXHAW, NC – Mr. Douglas “Doug” Duane Fournier, age 61, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home. Born on July 11, 1964, in Lansing, Michigan. He was the son of Duane K. Fournier and Vickie Ann LaBallister Fournier and was the loving husband of Carolyn Hasty Fournier.
Doug’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured every moment spent with those he loved. His heart especially belonged to his beloved granddaughter, Annslee, who lovingly called him “Silly Paw Paw” and had him completely wrapped around her finger. He poured into his family in every way he could, always ready to teach, guide, and lend a helping hand. Doug took great pride in sharing his knowledge with his children, especially his “sons-in-love,” leaving them with not only memories, but the skills and confidence to carry on the things he taught so well.
He loved the Lord. A faithful member of Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, he lived out his faith through kindness, humility, and quiet acts of service. His generosity was simply a reflection of who he was, often paying for a stranger’s groceries or covering a friend’s meal without ever expecting recognition or thanks. He never met a stranger, and his warm, giving spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Doug was a man who truly enjoyed the work of his hands and the life he built. As a self-employed new construction loan inspector, he took pride in a job well done. He had a remarkable talent for woodworking, creating everything from dressers and clocks to Adirondack chairs, many of which he gladly gave away as gifts. He loved restoring what others might have overlooked, especially older trucks. He was often described as a “jack of all trades,” and would humbly reply, “but master of none,” though those who knew him would say otherwise.
In his free time, Doug found joy in life’s simple pleasures, grilling with family, playing card games, farming and gardening, and fishing in Canada, where he would joke that “you could actually catch a fish.” He had a special love for Christmas, especially the lights and memories of snowy days back home, and he enjoyed model trains, always appreciating the detail and craftsmanship behind them.
Doug is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Fournier; their two daughters, Katie Fournier Furr and Nicole Fournier Marshall – who gave him two “son-in-loves”, Adam Furr and Logan Marshall; his adored granddaughter, Annslee Grace Furr, who was wrapped around his finger; his parents, Duane and Vickie Fournier; his sister, Julie Shaw and her husband, David; his brother-in-law, Roger Hasty and his wife, Karen; a special nephew, Jackson Grotophorst; and many friends that were like family.
The Celebration of Life Service for Doug will be held at 11:00am on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC, officiated by Dr. Jessie Adams and Pastor Adam Furr. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church Cemetery.
