LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Douglas "Doug" Carlyle Burnette, age 81, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born September 23, 1943, in Wilmington, Delaware, a son of the late Victor Carlyle Burnette and the late Ruth Madeline Blackmon Burnette. Mr. Burnette proudly served in The United States Air Force. Doug graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BS Degree in Accounting. He was the owner and operator of Douglas C. Burnette, PA LLC in Lancaster where he served many customers and small business owners with accounting and tax preparation services for over 50 years. While practicing accounting, he also served as the President of the National Society of Accountants from 1997 – 1998. During his career as an accountant, he taught accounting classes at the University of South Carolina – Lancaster. He was an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast enjoying trips from white water rafting to horseback riding in the Canadian Mountains. He was a beloved member of the community and will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.

Mr. Burnette is survived by his daughter, Kristen Marie Hobbs; two granddaughters, Connolly Campbell Doherty, and Dylan Marie Doherty; his son, Victor Thomas Campbell; his sister, Victoria Burnette Lemieux; his brother, Charles Gilbert Burnette (Jayne); his nephew, Ryan Truesdale (Jacqueline); two nieces, Erica Boyd (Leslie), and Crystal Brookshire (Adam); and four great-nephews, Kale and Banks Boyd, and Mason and Bryson Brookshire.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Burnette will be 11:00 am Monday, October 7, 2024, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Bobby Strother.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 am – 11:00 am, half hour prior to the service at Burgess Funeral Home.
