LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Doris R. Plyler, age 81, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of Monday, March 22, 2021. Doris was born November 3, 1939, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Daisy and Charles S. Rhyner and was married to the late Buddy Oren Plyler. Mrs. Plyler was a graduate of Lancaster High School and later in life she attended York Technical College for training as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her career included working at the Springs Mills cafeterias and after completing her CNA training, caring for those who were unable to care for themselves. She was a loyal member of the various Baptist churches she attended through the years where she was active in the WMU and often taught Sunday School Classes. She enjoyed growing all kinds of flowers and green plants and watching the birds that visited her feeders. Doris' family was the light of her life! She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could.
Mrs. Plyler is survived by four sons, Mark Rhyner and his wife Debbie of Mint Hill, NC, Christopher "Chris" Plyler and his wife Lanette of Lancaster, SC, Eric Plyler and his wife Tammy of Kershaw, SC, and Timothy "Tim" Plyler and his wife Cindy of Lancaster, SC. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kevin Plyler (Rebecca), Joshua Rhyner (Suzy), Craig Plyler (Katie), Collin Plyler (Alexis), Phillip Plyler (Jennifer), and Steven Plyler (Dianna); eight great grandchildren, Adelyn Plyler, Jane Plyler, Oren Plyler, Olivia Plyler, Teresa Plyler, Allison "Ally" Plyler, Carson Plyler, and Charlie Plyler; two brothers, Mason Rhyner and his wife Marjorie of Lancaster, SC and Joseph "Joe" Rhyner of Reidville, SC; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Plyler was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Sherry Elizabeth Plyler; six brothers, Charles Rhyner, Sam Rhyner, David Rhyner, Richard Rhyner, Sr., Lathan Rhyner and George "Marion" Rhyner; and four sisters, Margaret McCorkle, Edith Cherry, Ruth Gaston, and Carolyn Rhyner.
The celebration of life service for Mrs. Plyler will be 3:00 PM Friday, March 26, 2021 at Antioch Baptist Church with burial immediately following at the Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at 2:00PM in the Antioch Baptist Church Sanctuary.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled Veterans of America.
