Mrs. Doris McAteer Hammond, age 71, formally of Lancaster, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Frye Medical Center in Hickory, NC. She was born August 19, 1944 in Dillon, SC, a daughter of the late Ernest Ervin McAteer, Jr. and late Maggie Lee Gamble McAteer and was the wife of the late Zelmer Luther Z.L. Hammond, Jr. Mrs. Hammond was a CNA at the previous Marion Sims Nursing Home. She enjoyed sewing, making and painting ceramics, and completing word search puzzles. Mrs. Hammond loved spending time with her grandchildren and listening to southern gospel music. She was a member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Hickory, NC.

Mrs. Hammond is survived by a daughter, Pam Hammond Pegram and her husband Ken of Hickory, NC; three brothers, Wayne McAteer, Jerry McAteer, and Larry McAteer; and three grandchildren, Garth Stalls, Zachery Stalls, and Daniel Pegram.

Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Stalls.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Hammond will be 10:00 am, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Charles McAteer. Burial to follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
