INDIAN LAND, SC ~ Mrs. Renee Donna Kirschner Carberry Hammill passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, finally succumbing to complications from Parkinson's disease and Amyloidosis. Donna is survived by her husband, Greg Hammill; her sister, Debbe Furey; her sister-in-law, Kim Kirschner, her stepsister, Carol Malanga; her stepsister-in-law, MaryJo Malanga, her stepbrother, George Malanga; her daughter, Kendra Carberry; her son, Slater Carberry; her three stepsons, Randy, Brad and Jeff Hammill; and her eight grandchildren, Seb, Riley, Gavin, Emily and Jessica Hammill and Kyle, Slate and Hayesie Carberry. Donna was preceded in death by her father, Wally Kirschner; her mother, Renee Malanga; her stepfather, George Malanga; her brother, Dean Kirschner; her stepbrother, Robert Malanga; and her stepbrother-in-law, Tony Malanga.
Born on May 26, 1944, in West Essex, NJ, Donna grew up in Caldwell, NJ and graduated from West Essex High School. Donna earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in French from Syracuse University. In 1968, Donna married Kenneth Carberry, they settled in Millington, NJ and had two children. She and Greg married in 2001, moving first to Basking Ridge, NJ, then to the lovely Lake Keowee in Seneca, SC, and finally to Indian Land, SC.
While in NJ, Donna made several trips with Greg to La Entrada, Honduras to support Hearts For Honduras, a school started in 2000 by the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church. In Indian Land, Donna was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church.
Donna was a breast cancer survivor, and after her surgery in 1994, she achieved her goal of completing the 3-day, 60-mile Walk for the Cure in Washington, D.C.
Donna loved her family, playing tennis and pickleball, watching sports of any kind, and playing games, especially bridge, Maj Jong, Euchre and Scrabble. Donna will miss entertaining her many friends, including the group of "Ladies Night Out" women who have supported each for over 36 years.
Donna was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be sorely missed. Earth's loss is Heaven's gain.
In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to End Parkinson's (michaeljfoxfoundation.org) or the Amyloidosis Foundation (amyloidosis.org).
