IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna
Briganti
October 7, 1943 – February 27, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Donna Sheldon Briganti announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this world peacefully at home on February 27, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. She was 82 years old. Donna moved from the Northeast to the Carolinas to be with her daughter Kerri in 2021. Together, they shared a strong bond that was a joy to behold—a perfect mix of laughter, support, and shared adventures.
Born on October 7, 1943, in Mount Vernon, New York, she was the daughter of Kathryn Sheldon and Ludwig Fischer.
Growing up near the water, she spent countless days at Echo Bay, a small island off the shores of the Long Island Sound, where she forged lifelong friendships that endured until her final days.
A woman of varied interests, Donna found joy in attending the theater, concerts, and symphonic performances. She cherished her time spent at the beach, swimming, jogging, and reading the Bible. Her love for family was evident in every aspect of her life, whether she was nurturing her grandchildren or keeping the flame of family traditions alive.
Her career began in the bustling heart of New York City as an administrative assistant, a role she embraced with dedication and professionalism. Over the years, she contributed her talents to many large corporations, retiring after an impressive 45-year career.
In 1990, she married Salvatore "Sam" Briganti, the love of her life. Their marriage was a testament to true partnership, characterized by mutual respect and a shared faith that guided their journey together. Sam predeceased her, yet their bond remained an enduring source of comfort and inspiration.
She was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Salvatore Sam Briganti, and her dear son, Christopher Donald Heyman, and Bea Briganti, her cherished sister in-law. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family members: her devoted daughter, Kerri Alden; beloved brother, Arthur Fischer (Sally); sister, Wendy Fisher; treasured grandson, Christopher Alden; and loving cousin, Loretta Taliercio & Laura Cummins (Brian). She is also remembered by her extended family, David Briganti (Colleen), and grandchildren, David Briganti (Emily), Stephen Briganti, Caitlyn Briganti, Chris Briganti, great granddaughter: Michaela Briganti and Brother in-law Al Briganti. Donna had such loving friends that her family is forever grateful for: Claire & Nick Dressen, Lorraine “ Quiche” Heidrich (Bud) and Terry Gildae (Paul).
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brenda, her wonderful caregiver, for the unwavering dedication and compassion she provided, as well as to the team at Agape Care Group for tending to her needs with such grace and dignity.
We invite family and friends to remember her not with sorrow, but with the joy and humor she so freely shared with us all. Her life, a testament to love and resilience, is a legacy that will forever be cherished. Details for a future celebration of life will be announced by the family at a later date.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16)
