Obituary

TSgt Donald Woods McLean, Jr, 78, Retired, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and husband of Donna Graef McLean, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday August 21, 2021 at his home in Lancaster SC.

Don was born in Charleston SC on August 17, 1943. He is the son of and predeceased by Donald Woods McLean, Sr and Francis Morgan McLean.

Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Donna Graef McLean, children: daughter Donna McLean Eouzan of Raleigh NC, and son Brian N McLean of Charleston SC, Siblings: brothers Doug McLean and Robert McLean of Weaverville, NC and sister Kathryn Welch of Pickens SC, his step children Bree Bazemore Welmaker of Asheville, Bryan Paul Bazemore and Tanner Rhea Bazemore of Charlotte NC, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Don retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service. While in the military he was stationed and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. He had two tours in Vietnam. Don was very proud of his service, had a deep love for his country, was extremely thankful for all veterans who served, and touched emotionally by all things related. Don also retired from IBM working at locations in Poughkeepsie, NY and Raleigh NC in technical and managerial positions. He also retired from Civil Service where he worked in IT at the Beaufort Naval Hospital, developing many valued friendships there. Don will be fondly remembered for his ongoing projects at home that were always completed skillfully and with attention to detail. He was well known for his gift of gab. He was extremely proud of his family heritage and his Southern roots and was always the Southern gentleman! When he and his wife, Donna, returned to Beaufort, living here from 2001 – 2017, Donna's friends quickly became Don's friends, and he valued those friendships to the day of his passing. He always felt moving there was one of the best things that ever happened to him and moving away was one of the hardest. He was a member of The Hatiola Hunt Club and truly treasured the brotherhood he shared with the other club members. While living in Lancaster, Don was a member of All Saints Anglican Church. He was involved in a Men's weekly Bible Study and had volunteered with the United Way and Christian Services.
