LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Donald Richard Gowan, age 87, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025. He was born August 25, 1937, son of the late Richard Thomas Gowan and the late Roey Tennyson Gowan and was the husband of the late Sybil Ford Gowan. Donald studied Agronomy at Clemson University, where he graduated with a master's degree.  He retired from Clemson Extension, where he spent many years doing what he loved. Donald enjoyed spending his time outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and going to feed his fish in the evenings. He was a farmer at heart and locally known for his peach farm.

Donald is survived by his two sons, Stacey Gowan and Sean Gowan; his two grandchildren, Brandi Hipp (Zachary), and Tyler Gowan (Jenna); his three great-grandchildren, Taelor Gowan, Sybil Hipp, and Easten Hipp; his daughter-in-law, Sherry Gowan; and his two nieces, Angela Jones and Amanda Leonardi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Gowan; his son Ricky Gowan; his parents, Richard and Roey Gowan; and his sister, June Splawn.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Donald will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Holston Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Inman, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, July 11, 2025 at Burgess Funeral Home.
