Obituary

FORT MILL, SC ~ Mr. Donald William Apgar, age 97, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Atrium Health in Pineville.  He was born November 12, 1921 in Perth Amboy, NJ, a son of the late Russell Henry Apgar and Jessica Lucy Mallery Apgar.  Mr. Apgar was a retired Marketing Engineer for PSE&G in New Jersey where he was employed for 50 years. He served in the United States Army and was a WWII veteran.  Mr. Apgar enjoyed woodworking, sailing and was a sports fanatic, and especially loved the New York Yankees.  He was a longtime member of the Somerville, NJ, Rotary Club.  Mr. Apgar was a former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield, NJ.

Mr. Apgar is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mildred May Apgar; two sons, James Harrison Apgar and his wife, Cheryl of Warrenton, VA., and Albert Daniel Apgar and his wife, Melinda of Lancaster, MA.; two daughters, Janet Anne Kerr and her husband, Christopher of Knoxville, TN, and Laura Jane Apgar of Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren, Ryan Apgar, Sarah Bockarie, Emily Apgar, Silas Apgar, Calvin Apgar and Rogue Apgar; and four step-children, Robert E. Nelson, Linda Claire Curry, Nancy Ann Haug, and Beverly Jean DeLigny.

Mr. Apgar was preceded in death by his parents.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Apgar will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC officiated by Pastor Joseph Campbell.
