MATTHEWS, NC – Mrs. Dollie Irene Herriott Steele, age 100, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024. She was born August 3, 1924, in Canfield, OH, daughter of the late Jessie Herriott and Garlos McIntyre Herriott and was the wife of the late John Lawrence Steele. Mrs. Steele graduated from Hartford High School in Hartford, OH. She proudly served her country in the United States Navy during World War II earning the WWII Victory Medal for her service. Mrs. Steele and was a member of WAVES. She married John in 1948, and they had one daughter, Cheryl Dianne born in 1949. Mrs. Steele was a 4-H sewing instructor, volunteered with PTA in Austintown, OH and worked as bookkeeper and office administration for various companies throughout her career. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and drawing. Mrs. Steele was a charter member of American Legion Post 250 in Indian Land, SC, Charter Member of Women in Military Memorial, Washington DC, member of Honoring our Veterans Club of Sun City Carolina Lakes, and recipient of a Quilt of Valor presented by the Sun City Quilters. She was a member of Belair United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Steele is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Dianne Steele of Fort Mill, SC; and a brother, Robert Herriott of Courtland, Ohio.
Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Jesse Herriott, and Samuel Herriott.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Steele will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Belair United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Heather Baird. Burial will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, Ohio Monday, October 7, 2024.
The family will receive friends after the 11:00 am service in the family life center at the church.
