Obituary

LANCASTER, SC –Mr. Dock Ernest Cox, Jr., age 84, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 14, 1939, to the late Dock Ernest Cox, Sr. and the late Mary Dubose Davis Cox Ackerman and was the husband of the late Dorothy Lucille Barrett Cox. Mr. Cox retired from General Tire.  In Mr. Cox's younger years, he loved his Rhode Island red chickens, goats, bee hives, and camping. His favorite hobbies were cutting grass and riding on the golf cart. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Jackson Lodge #53, and the Jackson Shrine Club.

Mr. Cox is survived by his five children. Dock Ernest Cox III (Debi), Deborah "Deb" L. Cox, Terry Wayne Cox, Wanda K. Cox, and Michael Stevens (Karen); twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Cauthen, and Pam Harger (Jeff); two sisters-in-law, Mary Miller (Dalton), and Jean Bair; a brother-n-law, Robert Barrett; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Steve Cox, and Lloyd Cox.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mr. Cox will be held on his birthday at 3:00 pm Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Lancaster Memorial Park officiated by Pastor Ronnie Boone.

The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:30 pm, prior to the service at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
