LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Charles "Dick" Laughlin McKinnon, III, age 68, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at his home. He was born February 25, 1955, in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late Charles Laughlin "Lock" McKinnon, Jr. and Barbara Lemmond McKinnon and was the husband of Donna Howie McKinnon. Dick was an avid golfer, poker player, and Buford High School Football, Clemson, and Carolina Panthers fan, and also enjoyed the beach. He was lovingly known by many as "Papa Smurf". Dick was of the Presbyterian faith.

Dick is survived by his wife of 17 years, Donna McKinnon; his son, Charles "Chip" L. McKinnon, IV (Erica); two grandchildren, Emmaleigh Sanders and Ricky McKinnon; a sister, Kitty Pruitt (Wayne); a niece, Kelsey Campo (Lance) and their daughter, Waverly; a nephew, Cody Pruitt (Sam); and a large extended family and close friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Lock and Barbara McKinnon; and a sister, Amy Saylors.

The Celebration of Life Service for Dick will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Jessie Adams. Burial will follow at Turkey Creek Cemetery, 68-182 Edwin Hall Road, Bethune, SC 29009.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 pm – 1:00 pm, prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
